Video Conferencing in Conference Room 1 & 2

The room is equipped with an advance Polycom video conferencing system, using four dedicated ISDN lines that permits maximum use of bandwidth to deliver natural motion & sharp imagery with advance sound capture. The technology is supported by two controlled cameras, which link an event to another site to enable sharing of presentations, video, audio and pictures.

Due the specialist nature of video conferencing, reliant on far end system connection, users will be asked to consult one of our dedicated technicians, who will obtain the conference call information and perform pre-test connections to guarantee a smooth service.

Video Conferencing in Boardroom 2
Boardroom 2 offers technology indulgence, using a dual screen presentation and video conference, interactive system. Both screens delivering True HD quality images, ideal for introducing many forms of equipment such as a laptop with audio or other video / DVD technologies.

At its core, the facility uses a multi-point Polycom video conference system, which allows users from multiple sites to link-up and share presentation content, movie files, audio clips and pictures. Polycom is recognised as setting the standard within the video conferencing industry. Its technology insures the most precise delivery of sound and microphone pick-up, together with clear motion from the accompanying camera. The system is presented via dedicated ISDN8 that allows sole contention to ensure connection is retained using maximum bandwidth.
With the specialist nature of video conferencing, reliant on multiple far end system connections, users will be asked to consult one of our dedicated technicians who have a wealth of experience and will obtain conference call information and perform pre-test connections.

Video Conference Support

Making a Booking (Point to Point)

Booking should be arranged at least two weeks in advance to guarantee the booking and allow for test calls. When taking the booking its important to begin to find information on who provides the service at the far end;

• Name of the other institution / business.
• The ISDN number of the other institution / business.
• Contact name at the other institution / business (technical resource manager, not client).
• Contact (voice) telephone number of the other institution (technical resource manager, not client
• The type of equipment that they have (Manufacturer and model type).
• Design visuals according to standard guidelines for presentation. If you can afford it, prepare your visuals professionally. Make sure of font size, colour, background are suitable for viewing at the other site
• The person organising the conference should make sure all bookings have been made. Be aware of time difference. It is good practice to connect 10 minutes prior to the start time, to allow fine tuning of the lighting, seating and sound system.
• Confirm all details with all concerned a few days before the conference.

Test Calls prior to contract acceptance
Video-conferencing equipment is still not as compatible as it might be, and reliant on the far end users. Whilst Polycom systems are amongst the best, a test call should be conducted before the acceptance of any contract, as the service is not compatible for all users.

Salford Equipment
Salford University uses the Polycom VSX 7000e (conference room) and 7000s (boardroom) Video Conferencing equipment. Using ISDN8 BRI

Who Has Compatible Equipment?
Most Universities in the U.K. have video conferencing equipment, although the picture quality and frame rate may vary. Business and commercial use is very random. Far end conference systems, using ISDN are compatible.

Multi-Point Video Conferencing
Multi-point is only available in boardroom two, and is simple to arrange (unlike previous systems). As the ISDN lines are shared with far end users, for every additional point used the line is halved and also the quality and bandwidth. Its suggest no more that three users at a time, also with pre-test acceptance before contracts.

Hours of service
The service will normally be available during office hours 8.45am – 16.15 Monday to Friday (as with all support). If, because of time zone differences, the conference needs to take place out-of-hours we will normally try to accommodate these needs. Technicians will be charged out of hours rates with minimum call out (4hrs).
What will it cost?
*You will be asked to pay for the hire of the room

*There will be both a facility fee and call charge. The facility fee will be £50 per hour.
