University of Salford working with the Local Community

University of Salford involves the local community in projects and in accessing higher education:-

  • The Salford Young People’s University Scheme is a week long course offering children the chance to experience life at university and encouraging them to see higher education as part of their future.
  • The University has a close partnership with Salford City Reds, which aims to get local people more interested in sport while breaking down some of the barriers than can stop young people going on to university.
  • Many of the University events and facilities are open to local people as part of our aim to enrich the local community.  These include the healthcare facilities such as the new podiatry clinic, complementary therapies suite and occupational therapy services.
  • Red Generation – This project was a collaboration of The School of Art and Design, Albion High School in Salford and the Salford Innovation Park to provide a visual character assessment of the Salford Innovation Park area.  The project converted artists’ research into Salford branded products that sought to celebrate the character and innovation of the local community.
  • Salford Money Line – This is a groundbreaking project to establish a “community bank” to enable an ever-growing group which sometimes finds itself excluded from opportunities by a lack of support.
